Duke William's Ship 1A, jacquard woven imported French impressionist decorative fine art wall hanging tapestry depicts events leading up to the Battle of Hastings (1066) when Duke William of Normandy was victorious over King Harold of Saxony, England. A Norman ship is displayed here.
This jacquard tapestry is an extract of the queen Mathilde's tapestry. The original some 230 feet long, is in the Bayeux museum in Normandy. It describes how England was conquered by Normans. Also known as L'Embarquement.
