Map Mercator Belgian tapestry is rich with history.
The original was made in 1630 by Henricus Hondius (1596 - 1651), in five languages (Dutch, English, German, French and Latin). The four individuals depicted in the map are Julius Caesar (top left), Claudius Ptolemy (top right), Gerard Mercator (bottom left) and Jodocus Hondius (his father, bottom right).
