Product Overview
Description
Saint Tropez is a Belgian jacquard woven wall tapestry. The art comes from a painting by Paul Signac (1863 – 1935) called The Red Buoy completed in 1895. Signac was a French Neo-Impressionist painter who, working with Georges Seurat, helped develop the Pointillist style.
Saint Tropez was a small fishing port frequented by many painters before becoming a fashionable tourist resort. The blue water fills much of the painting, but is hemmed in by the reflections of the orange house fronts. The orange-red buoy in the foreground catches the eye, contrasting strongly with the pale blue water of the port because it is a complementary color and much darker in tone.
